From the classy crew who brought you Clive and Lustre Pearl, Bar 96 adds its own casual ease to the eclectic mix of Rainey Street’s vintage playground. Infused with a sports-friendly vibe and a wraparound porch that loves the company of late night loungers, it’s the bar with a little something for everyone. A place where you can catch the game while savoring Texas brews in the comfort of a neighborhood back yard. 96 feels like home – except you’ll never want to go to bed.

Bar 96 offers a diverse beer selection, champagne, wine and a full bar, as well as all the classics:  Checkers, Jenga, and more, including an old photo booth!

The Bar 96 Story

OUR STORY
The story of the Rainey Street crew begins with Bridget Dunlap, a single mom with a vision for Rainey Street. Bridget saw the charming, if slightly dilapidated atmosphere of Rainey Street and envisioned a new entertainment district for Austin. For people who want to avoid the frantic over-indulgence of 6th Street but like the idea of drinking in a central neighborhood, Rainey Street is ideal. Bridget took one look at 97 Rainey and put down money immediately. Thus began her love affair with the now-illustrious Lustre Pearl, which opened April 2009. Next up was a handsome house down the street at 609 Davis. Bridget and her associates saw that house as the perfect masculine counterpoint for Lustre's luster. Clive Bar was opened in October 2009 and, like Lustre Pearl, gained instant notoriety. Bar 96 was the next step on the road to creating a new entertainment district and opened its doors for a sports friendly chillaxed fun environment that even you babes will enjoy!

HISTORY OF RAINEY STREET
The Rainey Street Historic District is a street of historic homes, many of the bungalow style, in downtown Austin, Texas. Rainey Street is positioned near Lady Bird Lake and Interstate 35 in the southeast corner of downtown. Though 21 buildings are specifically identified as a part of the historic district, the stretch of Rainey between Red River and Driskill includes 31 buildings built before 1934, giving the neighborhood a historic character relative to other areas of the city.
Most of the homeowners asked the city for a zoning change back in 2005 and got it.  Rainey went from single family to Central Business District.

SXSW/Special Events

Rainey Street is a perfect place to host any event, from a small company happy hour to a big showcase for South by Southwest. In our first SXSW, with Lustre Pearl and Clive Bar, we hosted a number of corporate and industry events that includes performances by national-touring acts like Broken Bells along with Austin up-and-comers like SPEAK. We cater to a number of different event sizes and formats and will work with you to make your event as awesome as it should be.

96 is the newest addition to the Rainey Street scene, but it's more than ready to host your next event or party. Please email us and we'd love to start planning with you!
